NGO Vozama

With the NGO Vozama in Fianarantsoa, ADES has planted more than 150,000 trees since 2012. Vozama staff know the land and the people and oversee more than 400 village schools for pre-school children. Vozama has specialised staff, including for reforestation and administration. They run their own tree nursery and have established good contacts for seed procurement. The establishment of VOI (village cooperatives for forest management) is part of their concept.

NGO Voiala

Also in Fianarantsoa, ADES has been working with the NGO Voiala since 2019. Since 2014, the NGO has been reforesting with a cooperative approach and maintains its own tree nurseries. Residents of the surrounding villages are recruited for various tasks such as planting, looking after the tree nurseries or fire protection. As in Vozama, the rights to use the forest in Voiala also pass into the ownership of village cooperatives. This closely involves the local population in the protection and maintenance of the forest. By the end of 2021, ADES will have reforested 45 000 trees here. In 2022 alone, the planting of 60 000 trees is planned.

TCOTPE

Ankazobe is located only 90 kilometres from the capital Antananarivo and is a highly fire-affected and vulnerable region. Here, ADES works together with the NGO TCOTPE (the capital of the planet earth). At the beginning of 2022, ADES planted about 90,000 trees here within three years, including fire protection. The strong winds make fire protection measures here complex and expensive, and erosion has impoverished the soil for centuries. The NGO TCOTPE is achieving encouraging results under these challenging circumstances and maintains its own tree nursery, which is supplied with water from a spring.
