Savings of 85 percent

ADES designs and builds institutional large-scale kitchens for schools, homes and other institutions. The focus is on the development and installation of a modular system for combining solar energy and energy-efficient cooking cookers (ICS) as part of an improved kitchen concept for social institutions such as schools or hospitals. In each case, the concept covers everything from wood storage, staff training, kitchen infrastructure conversion to hot water supply.

Goals

The main objective of this project is to develop and install a modular system for combining solar energy and energy-efficient cooking stoves (ICS) as part of an improved kitchen concept for social institutions such as schools or hospitals. This is intended to achieve various effects:

  • Reduction of fuel consumption by at least 80 %

  • Reduction of harmful air pollution in the kitchen
  • Reduction of climate-damaging CO2 emissions

  • Improvement of the financial situation and thus the improvement of the nutritional situation at the participating organisations

Madame Serena

Mme Serena, cook École des Saphirs:

"Three of us cook lunch for over 500 children. Before the kitchen was rebuilt, we needed 200 kg of wood per day and had to cook for 7 hours. With the new kitchen, it is only 30 kg of wood per day and all the rice is in the "Miracle Box" ready in 3 hours! There is also much less smoke. We are very satified." miraculeuse ready in 3 hours! There is much less smoke, we are very satisfied."

The Wonder Box

The "Miracle Box" is an insulated box on wheels that is integrated into large kitchen concepts. After the rice has been cooking on the fire for five minutes, it is placed in the box with the pan. In it, the rice swells in the pan without any further energy supply. After half an hour, it is swollen and ready to eat.

The quality of the rice is excellent when prepared correctly and the volume of the finished rice is increased by between 5 and 10 percent. This method of preparation significantly reduces the amount of work and saves a considerable amount of wood. Rice can be prepared up to four times on one and the same cooking place.
